Oma's Country Critters Sanctuary Inc. is a non-profit 501c3 organization. The sanctuary has nearly 30 acres allocated for use that is located on Harrington-Lee Farm, LLC in Howard, KS.  Development started in 2019 ;however, the Non-profit organization officially obtained formal status early 2021 once the pandemic started to settle down.   Operated solely by volunteers and funded entirely on donations, the sanctuary is overseen by a Board of Directors .  All donations including cash, items, and services are tax deductible.  Currently the sanctuary is home to nearly 100 different farm animals that have been rescued or surrendered for varies reasons.  Visit the "Meet the Critters Page" to view many of them.  In addition to the farm sanctuary we are also a Certified Wildlife Habitat site with the National Wildlife Federation and Kansas Wildlife.   There are several acres located on the back end of the property surrounded by trees and water sources, that is dedicated to Wildlife preservation by ensuring they have shelter, water, food, and a safe environment for their offspring.  We have a page "Certified Wildlife Habitat" that is dedicated to photos we capture of our wildlife critters we share this land with as well as education.

Bobcats

We have what appears to be three bobcats who currently stay in the area. SE Kansas is know to have the largest population but they are only rarely seen. Most of our sightings have been by trail camera but we have been fortunate to have seen them running about.

Bullfrog

The largest frog in North America these frogs are known for their call that is so deep, it resembles the mooing of a cow, hence its name. Only males emit this sound and can be heard during the day or night. They are nocturnal predators, they will eat about anything they can fit in their mouths, including insects, mice, fish, birds, and snakes. They sit quietly and wait for prey to pass by, then lunge with mouths wide open. They can leap 3 - 6 ft. Males are highly territorial and will aggressively protect their land. Females are typically larger than males. With multiple ponds on our land we have an over abundance of frogs.

Opossum

Opossums can be beneficial for your garden eating snails, slugs, and insects. They are not vicious or aggressive to humans but if you are bitten their diseases can be harmful. We have been able to provide a habitat that apparently they enjoy as we have experienced no issues with them and our livestock. Our property and animals are under video surveillance and we have not observed any near the animals. It is important to make sure they do not have access to the horse feed area as there is a potential for horses to acquire a neurologic disorder called EPM if exposed to infected opossum feces.
